MEET DEBORAH
Deborah R. Roy MPH, COHN-S, CSP, FAAOHN, FASSP is President/Owner of SafetySpeaks. She has more than 35 years of consulting in global safety and health management systems, development of strategies to assess and control risks such as serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs), risk management, and Prevention thru Design, along with influencing the evolution of safety and health programing towards Total Worker Health®. As a corporate executive at L.L.Bean for 12 years, Deborah’s innovative approach to safety resulted in the implementation of safety management systems at seven sites in seven years, significantly improving injury rates and reducing costs. She was honored as an American Society of Safety Professional (ASSP) Fellow in 2018 for her significant contributions to the occupational safety and health profession and was previously inducted as a Fellow by the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Deborah received her Master of Public Health degree (MPH) in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
As a long-standing active professional member of ASSP, Deborah began serving as a Board member in 2015 and then President of the Society 2020 to 2021. She has presented multiple keynotes on the evolution of the occupational safety and health (OSH) profession, OSH leadership, and reducing organizational risk. The author of book chapters and several professional articles in peer-reviewed journals, she has won awards for her technical writing. She authored the opening chapter in the book: The Wiley Guide to Strategies, Ideas and Applications for Implementing a Total Worker Health® Program, published in October of 2024. Deborah travels extensively, speaking to convention-sized audiences and delivering inspiring keynote addresses.
